Functional male (left) and female (right) flowers of Toona sinensis. Both types of flowers have five thread-like staminodes alternating with stamens (male) or antherodes (female). The ovary color of the female flower is shiny green, whereas that of the male is pale white. The nectary around the androgynophore is green initially but turning bright red when opened (scale bar = 1 mm)
